Pirramimma was founded by Alexander Campbell Johnston in 1892 and has been owned and operated by the Johnston family ever since. The Johnston family arrived in South Australia in 1839 and in 1892 Alexander, the tenth of thirteen children, purchased 97 hectares of rich farmland southeast of the then fledgling village of McLaren Vale. He named his land Pirramimma, an Aboriginal phrase meaning "the moon and the stars." The vineyard soils vary from sandy, on the rise, to rich dark loam on the flat....

The Pirramimma Reserve Shiraz is made from selected parcels of grapes harvested from 30 year old vines. The quality of the raw material shines through in the deep colour and rich fruit characteristics, and is skillfully integrated with stylish oak notes to produce a richly complex palate. This wine has the structure and breeding to continue to develop for many years with appropriate cellaring.
Offering excellent fruit purity, the wine shows blackberry, rich floral, mixed spice and toasty oak aromas on the nose, leading to a wonderfully weighted palate delivering plump mouthfeel backed by fine-grained tannins. Splendidly structured and sturdy, yet velvety, making it highly appealing.
