About this winery

Sette Ponti reflects the vision of Dr. Antonio Moretti, who took over the estate from his father in the late 1990's, and immediately began producing estate-bottled wines. The vineyards occupy a total of 150 acres, at an altitude of 200 to 300 meters; the oldest vines (mostly sangiovese) date from 1935. The soil is a classic Tuscan mixture of sand, clay, limestone, and schist-based galestro. The estate - 750 acres in total - is farmed in the traditional Tuscan way, so that the vineyards are...

November 2016 (Vintage 2013)

Very aromatic with subtle tea leaf, underbrush, dried cherry, and flower character. Medium to full body, fine tannins and a fresh finish. Lovely acidity to this. Long and thoughtful wine. All about length and beauty. Pure old-vine sangiovese.

Complex aromas of fresh flowers and cherries follow through to a full body, firm and very silky tannins and a long, long finish. Driven and fine.

September 2018 (Vintage 2015)

This is a reductive wine at first, so decant or open early to allow it to reveal its real beauty. Pure cherries, cedar, lemons, freshly cut herbs, Chinese spices and bark. Focused and linear on the palate with fine tannins, cutthroat acidity and a long, medium-chewy finish. It’s so very Burgundian in approach and style. A wine that makes you think.

May 2015 (Vintage 2012)

An old-vine wine that needs coaxing to come out of the glass. With a little air, it shows dried cherries, earth, orange and strawberrries Beautiful nose. Full body, with loads of fruit, silky tannins and a long and flavorful finish. So much in the glass. Subtle and deep. A wonderful and stylish new pure sangiovese from one of the leaders in Tuscany.

September 2019

This is all about purity, finesse and energy. A line of cherry and raspberry flavors runs through this red, with grace notes of leather, tobacco, graphite and underbrush. Reined-in and firm, yet balanced, with a lingering aftertaste of cherry, mineral and spice.

November 2016

The 2013 Vigna dell'Impero emerges from a Sangiovese vineyard originally planted in 1935 by King Vittorio Emanuele. Ample and intense, while still maintaining a good deal of Sangiovese translucence, the 2013 exudes richness and pedigree. A host of sweet red cherry, licorice, tobacco and anise build into the succulent, deeply expressive finish. Readers should expect an intense, full-bodied expression of Sangiovese.
