Glistening magenta. Fresh, spice-accented red berries, cherry, incense and candied flowers on the seductively perfumed nose. A smoky mineral accent adds vivacity to sappy, alluringly sweet raspberry, cherry and floral pastille flavours sharpened by a zesty white pepper nuance. Fine-grained and seamless in texture, finishing with impressive power, a hint of smokiness and smooth, polished tannins. 25% new oak.

Aromas of leather, plum and baked cherry. Medium-to full-bodied with fine, slightly tense tannins. Wet minerals and suede add savory complexity to the black fruit on the palate.

Brilliant red. Pungent, floral- and spice-accented aromas of wild dark berries, vanilla and savory herbs, with a smoky mineral quality adding energetic lift. Sappy, focused and lively on the palate, offering densely packed black raspberry, cherry-cola and licorice flavors and a touch of baking spices. The floral and smoke notes come back emphatically on the finish, which hangs on with strong tenacity and gentle sweetness. (one third new French oak).

This has nicely wound fruit and complexity, held on a gently reductive edge with plenty of meat and spice. The palate is packed with dark cherries and has an assertive, plush build. Drink across the next seven years.

Lovely aromatics introduce a wine balanced between tart pomegranate fruit and suggestions of dried leaves and herbs. Baking spices from the aging in one-quarter new oak add interest to the finish. This is a wine that dives down deep into the palate and lasts through a long finish.

The 2021 Pinot Noir Big Tree Block lifts from the glass with a dusting of autumnal spices, cedar shavings and wild blueberries. This is racy and sleek, with cool-toned red and blue fruits flowing across a core of vibrant acidity. Hints of sour citrus combine with suggestions of dark chocolate and a rosemary resonance as the 2021 finishes long yet only lightly structured.
