Domaine Billaud-Simon has been producing Chablis wines since 1815 and are known for their mineral driven, pure, elegant and fresh Chablis. The Domaine was created by Charles Louis Noël Billaud in 1815 following his return to his family’s land from the Napoleonic wars. His wines quickly garnered a reputation for quality wines. The Domaine’s vineyard holdings grew quite considerably in the 1930’s following the marriage of Charles Louis’ grandson, Jean Billaud to Renée Simon. Jean Billaud continued to manage the estate alongside his father-in-law Jules Simon for several decades before Jean’s son Bernard took over in 1991. Bernard managed the estate until 2014 when the Faiveley family purchased the Domaine. Olivier Bailly joined the domain as winemaker following some wine world travel and time at other Chablis properties. The Domaine is run independently from Faiveley and some changes have been made, including introducing some inox barrels and purchasing their own small state-of-the-art bottling line. The Domaine has 17 hectares( 42 acres) of vineyards across the Chablis appellation on the classic Kimmeridgian soils. They have 4 Grands Crus; Les Clos, Vaudésir, Les Preuses and Les Blanchots – as well as four Premiers Crus – Montée de Tonnerre, Fourchaume, Mont de Milieu and Les Vaillons. They also own a few plots of village level vines for their ‘Ambassador’ wine – Chablis Tête d’Or. They began their organic conversion in 2022, thus affirming their environmental commitment, and should be certified in 2025
