About this winery

Neal Family Cab is a Liquid Art classic for many reasons. It is a top quality Napa Cab with an impeccable pedigree produced by one of the valley's great winegrowing families but, because the family is not predisposed to pandering to journalists, it tends to be un-reviewed, and therefore has no place in the pantheon of point scores. Product notes

From carefully chosen sites, Mark makes sure that only top quality fruit, harvested at perfect physiological ripeness, is selected. Neal Family Vineyards only use free-run juice; the remaining press juice is sold on the bulk market. Only 30 to 50% of the barrels are deemed of sufficient quality to be used for the wines bottled under the Neal Family Vineyards label. Although this sets a limit to the production scale, Neal Family Vineyards ensure that each wine is top quality.

Tasting notes

The wine displays a very dark color, promising of flavors and aromas that will be revealed in the glass. This great, robust wine reveals firm tannins with black fruits and chocolate aromas accompanied by notes of blackberry and cherry. Another layer of flavors brings out a mix of tobacco and olives with notes of spices, sage, and tea. The mouth feel is very rich and characterized by generous tannins that have evolved into a velvety texture, which creates a long, mouthwatering finish.

October 2016 (Vintage 2011)

There's spice, blueberry and blackberry. Minty and minerally. Full-bodied and structured with powerful tannins and a long blueberry finish. Needs at least four or five years.
