Thibault Liger-Belair comes from a great winemaking family that has deep roots in Burgundy: he is a direct descendant of the Napoleonic General Louis Liger-Belair, who acquired the Chateau de Vosne in 1815 when he married Ludovie Marey, whose family had been Burgundy negociants since 1720. Youthful, passionate and always full of ideas, Thibault trained as an oenologist, but had his start in the wine industry as a wine buyer. This Vineyard is 1.1 ha (2.7 acres) and was planted in 1986. The vineyard is in the commune of Arcenant, 10km (6 miles) west of Nuits-Saint-Georges, this vineyard is composed of white marl and limestone similar to those found in Corton-Charlemagne. Its steep slope (about 40%) and south-facing orientation give it the ability for long aging.
The grapes are harvested by hand and 100% destemmed before fermentation. There is a 3 week fermentation period with very moderate intervention. They are aging the wine in 30% new French oak barrels for 18 months. The wines are unfiltered and unfined.
This wine is all about the freshness and purity. The wine has bright cranberry acidity and can only be described as lively.
From 20- to 30-year-old vines lying on a steep, south-facing, 1.1ha site, this is a delicious example of Hautes Côtes de Nuits. Using 100% destemmed grapes, it’s an early-drinking Pinot with loads of bright framboise fruit, complemented by sweetness combined with round tannins and good energy.
(from white marl soil on a very steep slope; 100% destemmed): Ripe aromas of black cherry, raspberry and smoke, plus a whiff of meat. Creamier and larger-scaled in the mouth than the Corvée de Villy but with good juicy stony lift giving detail to the middle palate. Finishes with substantial broad, dusty tannins that current cut off the fruit. In a distinctly sunny style, but the Corvée de Villy may be longer.

Reduction. There is a bit more concentration here than in the prior two examples of Bourgogne with good richness yet also good verve to the stony and pure flavors that possess slightly better phenolic maturity. Lovely for the appellation.

(from limestone and white marl soil on a very steep, south-facing slope; the wines are 20 to 30 years of age and were harvested fully ten days earlier than the Corvée de Villy; 100% destemmed): Bright medium red. Smoky red fruits and stone on the nose. Distinctly sweeter than the Corvée de Villy, offering lovely inner-mouth high-toned energy. A rounder, riper style with good red fruit intensity. Finishes with dusty, serious tannins and nice length.
