Thibault Liger-Belair comes from a great winemaking family that has deep roots in Burgundy: he is a direct descendant of the Napoleonic General Louis Liger-Belair, who acquired the Chateau de Vosne in 1815 when he married Ludovie Marey, whose family had been Burgundy negociants since 1720. Youthful, passionate and always full of ideas, Thibault trained as an oenologist, but had his start in the wine industry as a wine buyer. The Cuvée Bourgogne les Deux Terres (the two lands) come from the marriage between the crus du Beaujolais and the Bourgogne from Côte d’Or. Every year, the best grapes are selcted from the different domaines to create a blend of the terroir from Crus du Beaujolais, Bourgogne Pinot Noir and Hautes Côte de Nuits. The blend of this cuvee can change each vintage depending on the quality of the grapes with a unique objective: produce the best blend of this wine with the better proportion between Gamay and Pinot Noir.
A blend of Pinot Noir and Gamay, this Passe-tout-grains Cuvée Bourgogne les Deux Terres (the two lands) marries Beaujolais crus and Bourgogne from Côte d’Or. The 2016 is from 40% Chénas, 15% Fleurie, 30% Moulin à Vent, 15% % Bourgogne Pinot Noir and Hautes Côte de Nuits.
(70% of the blend comes from cru vines in Beaujolais and the other 30% from the Hautes Côtes de Nuits). A restrained and ultra-fresh nose is comprised by notes of red cherry, raspberry and a hint of earth character. The sleek, delicious and slightly finer-textured flavors possess slightly better depth along with a subtle minerality that emerges on the ever-so-mildly austere finale. This is a quality Bourgogne.
