About this winery

The history of the Varnier-Fannière estate dates back to 1860, when the Fannière family began growing grapes and selling them to the Champagne negociant houses. It was only in 1950 that the family started producing Champagne under their own name. In 1989 Denis Varnier took over the vineyards and the house we know today was born. Varnier-Fannière's vineyard holdings are tiny, just 4 hectares of exclusively Grand Cru vineyards in Avize, Oger, Oiry and Cramant. Annual production is 3000 cases...

Product notes

Rosé Grand Cru is a unique wine that combines the elegance of Chardonnay grapes (90%) with the power and fruitiness of Pinot Noir grapes (10%) from the village of Ambonnay, one of Champagne’s historic Grand Cru villages.

Tasting notes

The wine displays a pale pink color, combining amber and ruby reflections. The nose is dominated by aromas of fresh red berries, blackberries, and currant. The lively, perfectly balanced attack on the palate is reminiscent of Pinot Noir’s strong character. It ends on a long, elegant, and powerful finish. This Champagne is ideal as an aperitif or with red fruit desserts.

Josh Raynolds, December 2013

Light pink. Mineral-accented aromas and flavors of blood orange, anise and ginger. Excellent tension here. Dry, silky and penetrating, displaying very good lift and spiciness. Finishes lively and taut, with impressive clarity and length.

Alison Napjus, December 2015

A vinous version, firm and well-knit, with graphite and spice accents to the creamy palate of strawberry pâte de fruit, glazed apricot tart, pastry cream and lemon curd flavors. Hints of toasted coconut and grated ginger show on the expressive finish.
