Jean-Louis Chave is rightly renowned for his Hermitage, but in time he may be remembered more for his work rebuilding the great terroirs of St-Joseph. Until now, his individual vineyards have been blended into a single domaine St-Joseph, but it looks likely he will bottle some of his Les Challeys pure in 2016. A tasting of the separate parcels points to a perfumed style with defined red berry fruits, medium-bodied with real finesse of tannins and peerless elegance.
