(14.5% alcohol; aged for 18 months in 80% new French oak barriques): Full red-ruby. Very ripe aromas of dark berries, spicecake, violet, cocoa powder and black pepper, along with a faint leathery quality. Wonderfully seamless and rich but also lively, with its dark berry, spice, chocolate and fresh herb flavors enlivened a note of black pepper and harmonious acidity. Perhaps not quite as lush in the early going as the superb 2014 but more focused: I can easily imagine this very long wine going on for a decade or more.
