White pepper, crushed rocks, lemon pith and some nutmeg and white peach aromas. It’s medium-bodied, well structured and sharp, with bright acidity marrying rocky minerality and just-ripe stone fruit. So much tension at the finish.

The youthful and delicate lemon-balm, white-peach and tart-au-citron character, make this sleek and diamond-bright beauty very hard to resist. Perfect balance at the super long, crystalline finish.

The 2022 Grüner Veltliner Steinertal Smaragd is the easternmost terraced single-site of the Wachau, on the border to Kremstal and its Pfaffenberg. While this is at the warmer end of the Wachau, two gullies bring down cold air from the forested top and create a high day-night amplitude. Peppery fern and green pear skin have a creamy, salty aspect on the subtle nose. The palate tingles with pepper on a very fine, taut, bright body that is both slender and stony. Grüner's creaminess washes over like surf over immovable rocks. This is a statuesque, smooth, taut wine, with a haunting pepperiness on the finish. (Bone-dry)

Pure and elegant, featuring a pronounced mix of stone and orchard fruit, accented by elderflower, pine, durian and wet stone notes. Medium-bodied and elegant, with minerally grip adding to the structure and complexity. Saffron notes linger on the long, mouthwatering finish.

A tropical style, exhibiting passion fruit, persimmon and ground ginger flavors before the firm structure of mouthwatering acidity and minerality takes over, leaving a bone-dry impression. Notes of white pepper emerge on the long finish. This should shine in several years.

The 2022 Ried Steinertal Grüner Veltliner Smaragd is clear, fresh, spicy and citrusy on the nose, with stone fruit aromas, and is dense and very rich on the palate as well as compact and grippy. The wine shows substance and a persistent aroma. Tasted at Schloss Dürnstein, Wachau, in September 2023.

The 2023 Riesling Steinertal Smaragd is picked in one of the highest parcels of this site on orthogneiss. Scentedness and grace are clear and bright, represented by lemon and lemon leaf. The palate is exquisitely bright and presents heightened citrus sensibilities; the purest lemon just soars and sings. The palate is slender, bright and vivid, just not as long as last year. This needs time to unfold all of its undoubted elegance. (Bone-dry)
