Juillet 2019 (Millésime 2014)

This is a fabulous white proving that Argentina can compete with the greatest whites of the world. Complex aromas of stones, lime, lemon, flan, meringue, and flowers. Hints of pie crust. Full body, with mineral, stone and electric acidity. Joyous. Drink now or hold. Made from organically grown grapes.

Novembre 2022 (Millésime 2021)

The 2021 White Stones Chardonnay is subtler and more elegant, a little closed with moderate ripeness and alcohol (12.5%) and a mineral palate with strong chalky sensations. It might be worth reproducing their explanation about this wine, one of the finest whites in Argentina: "The term 'white stones' refers to the composition of said rows of soil, with white oval stones covered by gravel. The vineyard 'Adrianna' is planted at an altitude of almost 1,500 meters above sea level, in the district of Gualtallary in Tupungato. The stony soil prevents deep root growth, providing optimum drainage. These soils are very poor in organic matter and contribute to support vines' permanent stress conditions. The cool nights allow for very slow ripening, optimal acid retention and low yields."

Avril 2023 (Millésime 2021)

A very mineral, flinty chardonnay full of wet stones, lime and some green fruit. Austere and chalky on the medium-bodied palate, really transparent and elegant with super bright and beautifully integrated acidity. Pure, linear and long.

Octobre 2024

The 2022 Chardonnay Adrianna Vineyard White Stones hails from a cool and slightly dry vintage in the Uco Valley. Sourced from a small gravel and limestone plot in Gualtallary, it displays a green hue in the glass. Its aromas feature lime, green apple and herbs, with subtle notes of ginger and acacia. Dry, nimble and refreshing, the chalky texture enlivens the slightly lean palate, with a long-lasting, fruit-driven finish. A high-altitude wine, the 2022 growing season brought an extra layer of freshness to this Chardonnay.

Mai 2021

I generally have a slight preference for White Bones over White Stones, but in 2019 they are equally brilliant. This is slightly broader in style than its stable mate, but has similar focus and precision. Leesy, spicy and layered, with notes of nutmeg, lemongrass and vanilla and mouth-watering acidity.

Mai 2024 (Millésime 2022)

This is always minerally and incisive and very different from White Bones. This is more classic chardonnay, with lots of freshly squeezed lemons, wet stone, flint and seashells. Brisk acidity on a medium- to full-bodied palate. Tense and intense, but this is acid-driven with a fine touch of salinity that lingers at the end

Août 2022 (Millésime 2020)

The 2020 Chardonnay Adrianna Vineyard White Stones from Gualtallary, Uco Valley, was barrel-aged for 16 months. Greenish-yellow in the glass. The intense, layered nose presents bold aromas of green apple, pear, hints of linden blossom and ginger with touches of lemon and herbs. In the mouth, it’s concentrated, rooted in a lively, heightened freshness while maintaining the variety’s expansive flow, which also delivers salinity and long-lasting flavor. A thrilling white that defines this nook of the Uco Valley.

Mars 2022 (Millésime 2020)

Lemon zest, pineapple, white pepper, cloves, jasmine, crushed stones and chalk on the nose. Medium-bodied, focused and phenolic. Very fine, mineral and tight with persistent energy and vivid acidity. Creamy, with salted-almond notes at the end.

Avril 2025 (Millésime 2023)

This shows characteristic aromas of green ginger, stone fruit, herbs and stony austerity. The palate is austere, almost severe, focused entirely on chalky texture and tension. Sourced from a section of vineyard with granite boulders covered in calcium carbonate. Pressed once with whole bunches, then aged in 500-liter barrels and 30% in tanks. It develops flor during aging, adding further complexity.

Avril 2021

A very fresh, bright white with sliced apple, pear and light cream. Full-bodied with a very pretty texture. Mineral, chalk and lightly salty mineral undertones. Intense finish. Really takes off.

Juin 2018 (Millésime 2015)

After a bit of a bumpy ride in previous vintages, the 2015 White Stones Chardonnay comes back as a phenomenal white with effervescent acidity that makes you salivate and makes the wine extremely long, providing a sensation of freshness and salty minerality. It's austere, serious and a little closed, with subtle aromas and not much fruit, as it's more about stones than grapes (pun intended!). The palate reveals a straight, vertical and laser-cut white, with a backbone of acidity that lifts it up and makes it very long. It finishes with salty flavors that linger on your palate for a very long time

Juillet 2025 (Millésime 2022)

Located at 5,000 feet in the Uco Valley, the Adrianna vineyard is the source of the winery's most renowned wines. This refined Chardonnay lives up to its reputation, showcasing a bouquet that includes honeysuckle and subtle mandarin peel, highlighted by sweet spices. Delicate citrus and herbal notes blend with cedar and a touch of ginger on the vibrant palate before a finish with hints of salt.

2024 (Millésime 2022)

Produced in what Alejandro Vigil identifies as a “white wine year”, this is the latest in a run of delicious releases of White Stones. Fermented in older oak, it comes from selected rows within the Adrianna Vineyard. Subtle vanilla spice and petrichor aromas segue into a palate of oatmeal, gunflint and lemon butter and a bright, focused, effortlessly poised finish.

Juin 2021

The 2019 Chardonnay White Stones Adrianna Vineyard is from the eponymous vineyard in Tupungato, Uco Valley, and was aged for up to 16 months in used French barrels. Bright yellow in the glass. The nose offers hazelnuts, herbs and a whiff of oak alongside hints of linden blossom and acacia. Intense and concentrated in the mouth, this has a skeletal structure and a compact, saline, tangy palate before powerful aromas of fruit and oak gather at the back of the throat to deliver an elongated finish helped along by the acidity.

Juin 2022 (Millésime 2020)

White Stones, as its name suggests, comes from alluvial soils with a significant percentage of clay. Fermented in older wood, with 20% malolactic, it’s the latest in a long line of impressive Chardonnay releases from Alejandro Vigil. Perfumed and subtly wooded, with a hint of gunflint, passion fruit and clementine flavours and a taut, mineral-etched finish.

Décembre 2023 (Millésime 2021)

This white comes from the Adrianna vineyard in Gualtallary and displays a lively acidity that speaks of its origin. Celery, dried lemon and light notes of oak spices create an aromatic bouquet. It's balanced and has subtle notes of green apple, lime, ginger and mint over a mineral texture. The finish is long and offers hints of dried fruit. This is ready to be enjoyed now, but will certainly develop over the next several years.

Juin 2018 (Millésime 2015)

From a sector of the Adrianna Vineyard planted in 1996 on the chalky soils of Gualtallary. Some 2,500 liters of this wine were made from the 2.5-hectare block, which has a layer of sand atop another of calcareous stone. Barrel-fermented and aged in oak for about a year, half of it under a veil of flor. There’s something saline here, of course, which could come from that process, but it also has the lush fruit that’s classic in this wine. Deliciously creamy with very deep peach flavors and a subtle herbal finish.

2017 (Millésime 2014)

If White Bones resembles a Puligny-Montrachet, then White Stones is more like a plumper, broader Meursault, showing a little more oak and stone, as opposed to citrus fruit flavours. It’s a contrasting style that shows the difference between the parcels.

Décembre 2016 (Millésime 2014)

The 2014 White Stones Chardonnay, sourced from the Adrianna vineyard in Gualtallary where the soils are rich in limestone, felt marginally riper than the 2013, with some yellow fruit, faint minty notes and a powerful mouthfeel with pungent flavors and great persistence. It finishes with a very tasty, almost salty finish. Some 1,600 bottles produced.

Mai 2023 (Millésime 2023)

The 2023 Adrianna Vineyard Chardonnay White Stones showcases its classic aromatic purity and focus, centering on aromas of citrus peels, iodine and dried herbs, complemented by an elegant hint of pastry cream in the background. The palate continues this combination with a sculpted, precisely defined texture that extends into a dazzlingly focused, ethereal conclusion. Initially quite restrained, it gradually and consistently reveals textural depth and length on the finish, and I suspect it will warrant a higher score with additional time in bottle.

Mai 2025 (Millésime 2022)

The 2022 Adrianna Vineyard Chardonnay White Stones is more introverted, understated and explicitly chiseled than its more textural and exotic White Bones companion. On the nose, it opens with transparent yet focused aromas of citrus pith and crushed stones, introducing a sleek, vibrant and laser-focused palate. The finish is similarly angular and incisive, continuously generating additional depth and dimension with time in the glass. While I slightly preferred the White Bones bottling due to its extra gear of complexity and textural depth, this is another clear-cut yardstick by which to measure the progress of Argentine white-wine production.
