About this winery

Azelia is still something of a Barolo lover's secret. Though the estate is not a high-profile one, proprietor Luigi Scavino is cousin of Enrico Scavino of the renowned Paolo Scavino estate, and shares ownership of the famed Fiasco hill in Castiglione Falletto with him. January 2025 (Vintage 2021)

A spicy wine with aromas of smoke, woodland, strawberries, strawberry leaves, red currants, violets and a touch of pepper. Firm tannins on the palate, with supple and concentrated fruit, a medium to full body and a refreshing finish.

January 2026 (Vintage 2021)

Ripe and vibrant, this red features cherry, strawberry, rose hip, eucalyptus and iron aromas and flavors, all matched to a linear frame. Turns leaner and more focused on the finish, where the dusty tannins converge with lingering red fruit notes. Shows excellent balance and length.

January 2025 (Vintage 2021)

The 2021 Barolo San Rocco marries finesse and power. Firm tannins drive through a core of red-toned fruit, iron, white pepper, dried rose petal and chalk. The 2021 is deep and resonant on the palate, but it also offers notable saline-infused vibrancy. It's a dynamic Barolo in the glass that reveals myriad shades of nuance over time.

May 2025 (Vintage 2021)

Pouring a brick red color, the 2021 Barolo San Rocco is focused and spicy, with notes of cinnamon, cranberries, dried redcurrants, roses, and baked earth. This medium-bodied Barolo offers a good deal of energy and finesse, with fine tannins, refreshing acidity, and savory notes of ripe orange citrus through the finish. It has a lot of pleasure now, but it’s only going to benefit from another couple of years.
