About this winery

Azelia is still something of a Barolo lover's secret. Though the estate is not a high-profile one, proprietor Luigi Scavino is cousin of Enrico Scavino of the renowned Paolo Scavino estate, and shares ownership of the famed Fiasco hill in Castiglione Falletto with him. Tasting notes

The true Nebbiolo, in purity. From it the brilliant and lively color. Violet and floral aromas, juicy, with refreshing touches of cherry, strawberry and currant. The exclusive aging in steel, strongly wanted, permits, more than ever, the performance of the variety characters. Raspberry in primis. Zesty acidity, fully attractive. From the estate youngest vines, 20 years on average, an approach to Barolo with instantaneous drinkability.

May 2021 (Vintage 2018)

The 2018 vintage could be outstanding for Barolo, judging by the quality of balanced and tense Langhe Nebbiolos. This example from Azelia is not aged in oak, just stainless steel, and comes from Castiglione Falletto and Serralunga at medium to high altitude from vines averaging 20 years old. Slightly reductive at first then full of tension, it has wild strawberry, pomegranate and rose petal flavours integrated with velvety tannins. There's a grainy texture then a lean yet savoury finish.
