Nicolas Greinache, October 2023 (Vintage 2022)The 2022 Condrieu Vernillon fermented and matured entirely in amphorae. Loïc Jamet reported that previous samples aged in stainless steel tanks felt rather closed, while aging in old oak vessels made the wines too broad-shouldered. Amphorae served as a smart compromise, infusing their Condrieu with ample freshness while preventing any oak-derived aromas. Indeed, the 2022 Condrieu Vernillon bursts with sapid white peach, apricot, spring blossom and lemon flesh aromas. Medium-bodied with a hint of saltiness on the bright finale, this is a delicious white that should be enjoyed over the next three years.
