About this winery

Grupo Artevino was founded from the expanding ambitions of the Anton Family. Originally coming from the restaurant world, the family owns the Michelin starred Zaldiaran. Understanding the complementary nature of food and wine the Antons established Bodegas Izadi in Rioja and over the next decade they added Villacreces (Ribera del Duero), Vetus (Toro) and Orben (also from Rioja) with the goal to “make high quality wines from indigenous varieties”. Notes about product

The grapes are sourced from 64 hectares of estate-owned vineyards located in the state of Finca Villacreces and Pinos Claro, with plantations dating back nearly 40 years.

Winemaking notes

Grapes are hand picked and destemmed before fermentation in stainless steel. Aged 12 months in 100% French oak barrels.

Tasting notes

Deep, black cherry color. Aromas of red fruit embodied with toffee oaky hints from the aging in French barrel reveals a sweet and fruity wine on the mouth. Reminiscent of ripe fruit and liquorice. This wine offers a pleasant and soft aftertaste.

Aromas and flavors of blueberries and black licorice here. Full body. Integrated tannins give the wine form, but don’t impose too much.

April 2019

From sandy, chalky soils, (these grapes previously went into Flor de Pingus), the 2017 Pruno is a blend of 90% Tempranillo and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon that spent 12 months in used barrels. It offers loads of blackberries, black raspberries, toasted spice, and hints of oak as well as some graphite in a ripe, concentrated yet pure style. It’s a beautiful wine, developing a touch of minerality with time in the glass, and has both richness and freshness.
