About this winery

Gianni Brunelli was from an old Montalcino family. He dedicated his life to upholding the local traditions of great food, wine and hospitality. He became famous for all of the above at his legendary restaurant Osteria Le Logge in Siena "where customers are treated like friends and friends like gods". Product notes

Merlot and Sangiovese are both grown at the Podernovone estate in Montalcino on mixed soils of galestro, some crushed limestone, schists, sand and white clay.

Production notes

Sangiovese 24 – 30 months in Slavonian oak casks of 25 and 30hl Merlot 24 – 30 months in french barriques & tonneaux.

Tasting notes

Deep ruby colour, plush notes of cherries, strawberries and sweet oak spice, vanilla and black pepper. The Sangiovese provides great freshness to the blend and is in perfect balance with the silky and soft tannins of Merlot. Overall rich but elegant with great persistence.

Monica Larner, November 2024 (Vintage 2021)

The Gianni Brunelli Le Chiuse di Sotto 2021 Amor Costante is a blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Sangiovese (with only 2,333 bottles produced). This wine is a lot of fun with bright cherry, pomegranate and chewy Jolly Rancher candy aromas. That combination adds to the brightness and richness of the mouthfeel. You gotta love this departure from classic Montalcino. This is not a terroir-driven wine, but it's a fun wine to drink nonetheless, especially with a classic burger and fries.

July 2024 (Vintage 2021)

A round, juicy and flavorful red. The nose shows notes of currants, cassis and some sweet spices. It’s medium- to full-bodied with fine tannins. Refined texture with control. A lively core of juicy berries at the center meets vivid spices and herbs funneling toward the vibrant finish.
