About this winery

David Schildknecht of the Wine Advocate implores consumers to drink more Beaujolais calling it a "happy hunting ground for jaded or bargain-seeking wine lovers" continuing a trend that has brought much greater exposure to the region over the past few vintages. We are thrilled to again offer one of the region's most exciting producers Domaine Mathieu and Camille Lapierre. Long-time followers will note change in name from Domaine M. Lapierre to Mathieu and Camille. Sadly Marcel passed away in...

Product notes

Since his return to the Domaine in January 2005, Mathieu Lapierre has perpetuated the tradition of natural wines initiated by his ancestors and has perpetuated his contribution to the development of the Domaine. In the heart of Beaujolais and the Morgon 'Cru' The domaine's vines, cultivated organically since 1981, are an average age of 60 years old. They spread over 13 hectares in Villié-Morgon area, 2 of which are in the Cote de Py. The cultural techniques put to work help preserve the soil's biology and help the vines take root deeply. They then absorb the oligo-elements necessary for the individuality and flavour of the 'cru'.

Production notes

A genuine expression of terroir, this natural wine is a 100% pure grape wine. From the vineyard to the cellar, it has been guided and developed without any chemical additives. Natural wines are alive with subtle characters and aromas. More than an organic wine, a natural wine is the guarantee that the vines have been grown organically and the juice is free of synthetic products.

Tasting notes

Incredibly easy drinking, soft and round with a very smooth finish. Aromas of red fruits and flowers, and hints of wet stones. Mild tannins and soft in texture, this wine is bottled in screwcap for easy access.

January 2020 (Vintage 2018)

About as drinkable and smoothly textured as a red wine can be, this has a very easygoing and quite flavorful delivery of ripe red cherries and strawberries.

Josh Raynolds, October 2019 (Vintage 208)

Lurid violet. Bright and racy on the nose and palate, showing fresh red berry and bitter cherry character and subtle bitter herb and spicy nuances. Shows good clarity and spicy bite on the nicely persistent finish, which betrays just a hint of fine-grained tannins.
