About this winery

San Felice is a medieval Tuscan hamlet nestled among the hill sides of Chianti Classico near Siena and Montalcino. The surrounding woods, olive groves, and vineyard shave been cultivated for centuries. San Felice Estate, owned by the Grisaldi del Taja family from 1700 until 1968, is today a prestigious winery led by creative, innovative talents who have made great wines since the beginning, including the first Super Tuscan ever made in Chianti Classico, Vigorello. 85% of San Felice’s 140...

Production notes

Only the finest sangiovese grapes are carefully selected from the estate Chianti Classico vineyards for this Riserva, the perfect blend of the traditional and the modern. The front label bears Titian’s famous portrait of a medieval knight in armour.

Tasting notes

Deep ruby red. Rich, long-lingering aromas are redolent of violets and wild red berry fruit. Il Grigio is a full-bodied wine, lean and firm, with succulent tannins and a tangy acidity. Ideal when accompanying meat-sauced first courses, roast pigeon, grilled steak.

October 2025 (Vintage 2022)

The San Felice 2022 Chianti Classico Riserva Il Grigio (made with 100% Sangiovese) opens to a medium- to full-bodied texture and soft layers of sweet fruit and black cherry. The character of Sangiovese shines bright in this pretty vintage that remains primary, fruity and accessible. There is more texture in this Riserva, yet the freshness of the fruit is what leaves a lasting impression.

July 2025 (Vintage 2022)

The 2022 Chianti Classico Riserva Il Grigio da San Felice is a bold wine. Super-ripe dark cherry, menthol, licorice, chocolate and incense show all the natural intensity of this very dry, warm growing season. Readers should expect an unctuous style. The 2022 spent 22 months in wood, mostly cask, with about 20% tonneaux and barriques.

March 2025 (Vintage 2022)

A smoky and slightly funky wine with aromas of graphite, leather and red and black cherries. The palate is firm, with austere chalky tannins, crisp acidity and a medium body.

October 2025 (Vintage 2022)

A lithe, vibrant red, this features cherry, strawberry, eucalyptus, iron and scrub notes. Turns sinewy on the finish, with a light astringency, yet there’s plenty of fruit.
