About this winery

Talenti is a gorgeous estate located in one of the world's most picturesque regions - the valley of the river Orcia, south of the legendary hill town of Montalcino, near the beautiful (and beautifully preserved) medieval monastery of Sant'Antimo, where if you were lucky, you might still hear the monks singing beneath the ancient Romanesque arches of the church built in the early 12th century: they continue to do so every day. Azienda Talenti was established by Pierliugi Talenti in 1981. The...

Production notes

A selection of 100% sangiovese, grown in the oldest vineyards that surround the estate (400 m MSL), is only used in exceptional vintages to create Riserva Pian di Conte. The south-easterly exposed soils are made up of sandy loam and plenty of heavy stone. The wine ages in 500-litre French oak tonneaux and 15/25-Hl Slavonian oak barrels for at least 24 months, followed by a period of bottle ageing.

Tasting notes

The Pian di Conte Brunello Riserva has a deep red colour and a fresh complex bouquet, rich in scents of ripe red fruit, plums, cherry, blackberry and raspberry. Accompanied by spicy scents of chocolate, tobacco and liquorice that develop with age. The palate features a toned body, compelling flavours with a good balance and smoothness, finishing off with sweet and elegant tannins.

June 2021 (Vintage 2015)

This intense red is saturated with macerated plum, black cherry, black currant, violet, iron and spice aromas and flavors, with a rich texture wrapping around the refined tannins. Distinctive and expressive, this remains fresh and focused through the long, complex aftertaste.

June 2022 (Vintage 2016)

A taut red, with fluid cherry, currant and raspberry flavors matched to dense, dusty tannins. Shows wild herb, tobacco and mineral elements, which peek through as everything plays out on the lingering, tactile finish.

October 2018 (Vintage 2012)

There is plenty of fruit here in the form of black cherry, plum and blueberry flavors, shaded by iron and tobacco notes. The tannins are assertive now, yet overall, this remains balanced, with a core of sweet fruit and a terrific finish.

April 2018 (Vintage 2012)

Ripe black fruits and smoky oak make this modern-style Brunello attractive. There's all the power you associate with 2012 Brunello, but it also shows plenty of freshness and nice acidity. A rather complex dry finish.

Michaela Morris, February 2018 (Vintage 2012)

Talenti's Riserva is crafted from the 2ha Paretaio vineyard at the Pian di Conte estate, near Sant'Angelo in Colle. Aged in a combination of large format Slavonian oak botti and French tonneaux, it shows sweet, ripe fruit and the concentration of the vintage, yet the underlying tangy acidity keeps it fresh and buoyant. Flavours of smokey plum, liquorice and earth are held together by grippy tannins that require a couple of years to yield.
