About this winery

Thibault Liger-Belair comes from a great winemaking family that has deep roots in Burgundy: he is a direct descendant of the Napoleonic General Louis Liger-Belair, who acquired the Chateau de Vosne in 1815 when he married Ludovie Marey, whose family had been Burgundy negociants since 1720. Youthful, passionate and always full of ideas, Thibault trained as an oenologist, but had his start in the wine industry as a wine buyer. He is also a former rugby player with a genuine 'down to earth'...

Product notes

This vineyard is 0.25 ha (0.62 acres) and was planted in 1964.The vineyard is located in the northern part of Chambolle Musigny, it’s the neighbor of the Grand Cru Road and just below the Chambolle Musigny Premier Cru Les Fuées and Bonnes Mares. It’s a petit appellation with only 2.8 ha (7 acres) of surface area. The vineyard has with a good quality of clay soils. It is very fertile deep soils and a lot of stone coming from the combe of Chambolle.

Production notes

The grapes are harvested by hand and they are using 30% whole cluster fermentation. There is a 3 week fermentation period with very moderate intervention. They are aging the wine in 50% new French oak barrels for 20 months. The wines are unfiltered and unfined.

Tasting notes

This wine is full of bright red fruit and a floral boutique. This is a great representation of the style of Chambolle Musigny, finesse and silkiness are at the forefront. This wine always offer little bit more structure and tannins gave by the deep soil.

(90-93) POINTS

January 2017

(40% vendange entier; 50% new oak; this wine was not made in 2016 owing to the frost): Bright, dark red. Terrific crushed-rock lift to the red berry and floral aromas. Suave and fine-grained on entry, then larger-scaled on the back half, opening out and building on the finish. Tannins are dusty and broad. Very shy now but leaves behind a lovely perfume in the empty glass.
