About this winery

Denis Varnier is a young vigneron in Champagne making tiny quantities of wine from Grand Cru vineyards. The history of the estate dates back to 1860, when the Fannière family began growing grapes and selling them to the Champagne negociant houses. It was only in 1950 that the family started producing Champagne under their own name. In 1989 Denis Varnier took over the vineyards and the house we know today was born. Varnier-Fannière's domaine is tiny, just 4 hectares of exclusively Grand Cru...

April 2019

Disgorged in July 2017, the latest release of Varnier-Fannière's NV Brut Grand Cru is superb, offering up an inviting bouquet of lemon oil, crisp yellow apples, warm biscuits and gingerbread. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, powerful but precise, with ripe acids, a deep and multidimensional core and a delicate mousse, concluding with an intense, vinous finish. Entirely composed of Chardonnay from Avize, Oger and Cramant, this is a blend of three different vintages and was finished with ten grams per liter dosage that seems very well judged.

December 2019

Round and integrated, this harmonious Champagne is animated by well-cut acidity and a fine, lively mousse, offering flavors of Asian pear, almond biscotti, lemon sorbet and oyster shell. Elegant. Chardonnay.
