About this winery

In 1781, in the small town of Tupin-et-Semons, south of Lyon and within the most prestigious vineyard of the Rhône, Joseph Vidal founded the House of the same name. From the outset, it acquired an international reputation thanks to Thomas Jefferson, then United States Ambassador to France, who visited the estate in 1787. Production notes

Terraces: granitic slopes covered with schist and gneiss. Warm soils exposed to the south. More from the southern sector of the Appellation

Tasting notes

Appearance : quite a full red, some black highlights Nose : blackcurrant, spice (nutmeg, pepper), fleeting animal touch. Palate: strong and elegant tannin, fresh in the middle, touch of oak. Complex and long flavors based on blackcurrant, smoked ham and some black tea.

The 2018 Saint Joseph is almost Côte Rôtie-like in its black raspberry, spicy, and floral aromatics. These all carry to a medium-bodied Syrah that has silky tannins, outstanding balance, and just loads of character.
