Aldo Conterno was born in 1931, the second son of Giacomo Conterno; his family had been winegrowers in Piemonte for five generations. He left Italy in 1954 with the intention of establishing a winery in the Napa Valley with two uncles who lived in San Francisco. Dense garnet in the glass. On the nose it’s restrained, with cinnamon, sweet violets, cherry pits and a balsamic whiff. The attack is full, with a dense palate that’s powerful yet velvety. The crisp, refined tannins are long. with deliciously integrated acidity. Great balance and concentration. Best after 2030.
