About this winery

Azelia is still something of a Barolo lover's secret. Though the estate is not a high-profile one, proprietor Luigi Scavino is cousin of Enrico Scavino of the renowned Paolo Scavino estate, and shares ownership of the famed Fiasco hill in Castiglione Falletto with him. Product notes

In spite of the already low yields due to the age of the vines, the green harvest is still performed, allowing for there to be a special ripening. The hill is incredibly steep and in the summer it receives a the perfect amount of sun and warmth. This confers remarkable characteristics to the grapes. The vineyard only covers a really small surface, inferior to 1 hectare, and it produces on average a little more than 3000 bottles.

Production notes

Released only after resting in the cellar for 6 years. In the Riserva Voghera Brea vineyard, vines more than 75 years old produce unique grapes with incredible concentration. Prolonged aging in wood and in bottle. Elegance, charm and power. Each Riserva is a Riserva to be remembered.

Tasting notes

Dried flowers, dried fruits, great freshness and aromatic intensity. Black cherry, prune, blackberry with rose, violet and dark chocolate. Round tannins that are generous with endless length.

Monica Larner, January 2017

The 2007 Barolo Riserva Bricco Voghera is a stunning interpretation with bold fruit contours and plenty of complexity as you read between the lines. Blackberry and red currant segue to tar, licorice, balsam herb and rosemary sprig. The intensity is bright and vibrant. This is a slightly bigger expression of Nebbiolo and the 2007 vintage offers thicker texture and more richness compared to most other years.
