Azelia is still something of a Barolo lover's secret. Though the estate is not a high-profile one, proprietor Luigi Scavino is cousin of Enrico Scavino of the renowned Paolo Scavino estate, and shares ownership of the famed Fiasco hill in Castiglione Falletto with him. The fruit comes from 60-year-old vines on a hilltop site, the "point," or punta, in Castiglione Falletto.
Tasting notes
Intense and bright, with a strong but gentle character, offering pure cherry, plum and blackberry aromas. On the palate, dark fruit flavors are accented by earth and leather. Balanced acidity finishing off with a dusty baker's chocolate note.
