About this winery

Founded in 1825, Domaine Faiveley is one of Burgundy's greatest domaines. Originally the company was a classic negotiant business, based in Nuits St. Georges and engaged in the buying and selling of wine but not the production of it. After seven generations of steadily acquiring properties throughout the Cotes de Nuits, the Cotes de Beaune, Cotes Chalonnaise and now Chablis, the Faiveley family have established themselves as the most important vineyard owners in Burgundy, with 125 hectares of...

Product notes

Our old vines are over 35 years old and produce an exceptionally intense and aromatic wine that reflects the unique character of its terroir.

Production notes

The grapes are harvested and sorted by hand. The proportion of de-stemmed grapes and whole clusters varies depending on the vintage. The wines are punched down daily in order to extract colour, tannins and aromas from the skin of the grapes. After a 19 day vatting period, the alcoholic fermentation is complete. The free-run wine is run off using a gravity system whilst the marc is pressed slowly and gently in order to extract a pure press wine.

Tasting notes

Deep, clear ruby red hue, it reveals notes of sweet black fruits, black truffle and spices, framed by a discreet touch of oak. It is medium to full-bodied, fleshy and enveloping, with a concentrated, rich and youthfully reserved core built around velvety tannins and lively acids. A wine of excellent strength and deep concentration.

May 2021 (Vintage 2018)

There is a fine purity to the black cherry, blackberry and spice flavors in this supple red. It's harmony and finesse makes it approachable now, yet there is ample structure to develop over the short term. Fruit and spice accents extend the finish

August 2020 (Vintage 2018)

Subtle aromas of sweet strawberries and hints of citrus. Violets, too. Full-bodied and very fruity, but the tannins create a creamy texture and the acidity provides a tangy finish.

March 2022 (Vintage 2018)

Sourced from old vines averaging 35 years in age, this opulent, spicy wine balances fresh tones of roasted black plum and blackberry preserves against a peppery, charry frame. Matured 14 months in French oak (20% to 30% new), the robust, warming wine has fine-grained but firm tannins that need a bit more time.
