About this winery

David Schildknecht of the Wine Advocate implores consumers to drink more Beaujolais calling it a "happy hunting ground for jaded or bargain-seeking wine lovers" continuing a trend that has brought much greater exposure to the region over the past few vintages. We are thrilled to again offer one of the region's most exciting producers Domaine Mathieu and Camille Lapierre. Long-time followers will note change in name from Domaine M. Production notes

Produced only during so-called “exceptional” years, the Cuvée ML will then come from the oldest vines in the estate. Century-old vines located on the Côte du Py and century-old vines located at a place called "Le Douby", near Fleurie. The production never totals more than 2.5 hectares

Tasting notes

The 2019 Cuvée Marcel Lapierre is concentrated and intense, while maintaining a lovely sense of delicacy and lift. With aromas of cherry, liquorice and violet. You'll get plenty of bright fruits, soaring spices, and a lovely mineral undercurrent. When you add the velvety texture, you get a very compelling and elevated expression of Beaujolais.

Neal Martin, March 2026 (Vintage 2024)

The 2024 Morgon Cuvée Marcel Lapierre, which comes from two plots planted around 1903/1904 that Lapierre remarked had a different "gastronomic soil", has a glorious bouquet with ebullient red cherries, white-tipped strawberry and rose petal scents, all beautifully defined. The palate is medium-bodied, with crisp, slightly chalky tannins and gentle but insistent grip. This is very focused, with no vegetal aspects and a mineral-rich finish. Excellent.
