Bodega Noemia was inspired by the discovery of a small plot of old vine, pre-phylloxera Malbec in the Río Negro Valley, where almost non-existent rainfall and incessant breezes make vine diseases virtually unknown. Bodega Noemía was originally a collaboration between Danish winemaker Hans Vinding-Diers and Countess Noemi Marone Cinzano. Together they restored the old vineyard back to life and they purchased a small property to make a small amount of wine for fun. The resulting wine quickly gained international attention, so they decided to stay and make more wine from the beautiful old vines. The estate is now wholly owned and operated by Hans and his family. Mainqué is a small northern Patagonian town in the northern part of Rio Negro province, home to high quality vineyards. The tiny property consists mainly of an old winery dated from 1953, an old tractor shed that was up-cycled into a modest barrel cellar and 2 single vineyards that are divided by a small water canal. The soils are mainly fluvial, clay, silt with some limestone, gravel and sand. Noemia is one and half hectares of Malbec planted in 1932, which means they are pre-phylloxera and massale selected. J.Alberto is a four and half hectare plot divided into 5 blocks of inter planted Malbec at 95% and 5% of Merlot. The vineyard is certified organic. The philosophy at Bodega Nomeia is to bring the vineyard to the bottle and great care is taken to achieve this. Hand picking, de-stemming and full bunch fermentation in open top wooden fermenters, cement vessels and stainless steel tanks. Ageing takes place in 600 liter oak vats and seasoned barriques, 15% of which are new. All the grapes use in A Lisa are from growers with whom Han’s has long-term lease contracts and the vineyard are managed by the Bodega Noemia agricultural team. Working with local growers means a contribution to the local micro-economy of the community to help protect the heritage of the ancient vineyards and protect them from being ripped out and the land used for other purposes.

Wine Advocate

"I had the luxury of tasting all the vintages ever produced of Noemía, the greatest wine of Río Negro, while visiting the property with winemaker Hans Vinding Diers...And let's not forget the other bottlings, from the minuscule Noemía 2 to the more widely available and great value A Lisa. These are wines I could drink every day. You should taste to understand the potential of Río Negro."

Noemía de Patagonia is now the sole property of Han Vinding Diers, a project in Río Negro in Patagonia in the south of Argentina, where he cultivates seven hectares of vines that are certified organic by Ecocert. He produces 120,000 bottles per year of very balanced and elegant wines where the oak is better and better integrated. They are paying minute attention to all details, and that pays back. These are some of the best wines from Argentina.
