The Confuron-Cotétidot name began in 1964 with the union of legendary winemaker Jean-Jacques "Jacky" Confuron to Bernadette Cotétidot. Jacky has since relinquished day-to-day operation of the Domaine to his two very capable oenologist sons, Yves and Jean-Pierre. From a 0.35-hectare parcel in what Burgundians tend to call Charmes-Charmes (to
distinguish is from Mazoyères) this is sappy and intense, with lots of clove spice, firmish tannins and the concentration to age. A Grand Cru that’s built to last, but can be forbidding in its youth. 2021-30
This was going through a late malolactic when I tasted it in Burgundy so a little tricky to get a handle on. But in London in January, it was easier to taste. It’s not the most charming of Charmes, it must be said, but the wine is made to age. It has appealing wood spices, umami and fresh tobacco notes and a core of dense red fruits.

Reduction presently dominates the nose. Otherwise there is outstanding richness to the full-bodied flavors that possess a relatively refined texture that is not dissimilar to that of the Ech, all wrapped in a fleshy yet moderately austere finale.
