Faiveley are increasingly focused on their own vineyards, but the wines they make with other people’s grapes are still impressive. Forward, succulent and appealing, this is a Chambolle drinker’s Chambolle: perfumed and charming, with lots of rasberry and strawberry fruit, a hint of tannin and a long finish. 2016-26

Aromas of flowers, cherries and stones follow through to a medium body, very fine tannins and a beautiful finish. Linear and fine. Lovely texture on the finish. Elegance with structure.

Half of this 0.8-hectare parcel is bush vine trained, which may or may not add to its
complexity. This is a pale, delicate, almost evanescent Chambolle, with nostril-filling aromas, very fine tannins, a hint of oak and sweet red cherry and wild strawberry fruit.
Bright, pale yellow. Subdued, slightly minty aromas of crushed stone and lime blossom; not as pristine as the Blagny and a touch metallic today. Then densely packed and bright on the palate, with lemon and peach fruit flavors lifted by spices and minerals. Not exactly hard today but needs time to absorb some of its acidity. Light on its feet in the style of the year. Finishes with sneaky length.

Once again moderate wood is present on the more floral-infused nose of bright cherry, spice and exotic tea scents. The refined but quite punchy medium weight flavors exude a bracing salinity on the mildly austere, tension-filled and beautifully long finish. This is refined but it’s not necessarily a Charmes of lace and grace as focused power lurks in the background and thus some forbearance is in order.

This is also quite perfumed and more elegant with its panoply of various red berries, violet, lilac and sandalwood hints. There is a finer mouth feel to the delicious medium weight flavors primarily thanks to the finer grain of the supporting tannins that shape the caressing, lacy and beautifully well-balanced finale. This beauty should drink well young but also amply reward mid-term cellaring.

Mild reduction renders the nose tough to assess. Otherwise there is good richness and vibrancy to the elegant and silky-textured middle weight flavors that, as one would reasonably expect, are much less powerful and even a bit less complex as well on the lingering finale. This is certainly pretty and very Chambolle in character but this is clearly not at the same level as the LSG.

The 2021 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Charmes wafts from the glass with aromas of cherries, plums, vine smoke, spices and petals. Medium to full-bodied, supple and seamless, with melting tannins and a pretty, giving profile, it will show well on release.

The 2020 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Charmes is perfumed and elegant, soaring from the glass with scents of roses, peonies, orange rind and sweet red berries. Medium to full-bodied, velvety and sensual, with melting tannins, succulent acids and a saline finish, it's one of the most ethereal wines in the range.

An exceptionally pretty nose is composed by notes of red cherry, raspberry, floral and discreet sandalwood nuances. There is terrific underlying tension to the racy, precise and refined middle weight flavors that exhibit a subtle minerality on the ever-so-mildly austere finale. This is much more classic Chambolle in comparison to the Beaux Bruns but note that there is a firm tannic spine and this will require cellaring.
