Situated in the heart of the Mosel's finest vineyards, the Max Ferdinand Richter estate has been in the family for over 300 years. The family owns 48 acres of priceless vines on the magnificent stretch of the river between Erden and Brauenberg including all the best sites: Graacher Himmelreich, Wehlener Sonnenuhr and Brauenberger Juffer and Richter's monopole Veldenzer Eilsenberg. Production notes

Grapes had been hand picked during second decade of October 2013 from newly planted vineyards - less than 15 years of age. In that age vines don’t show the concentration and mineral richness we want to expose in our Prädikat wines yet. Thus downgraded grape juice is fermented into a “calling card” wine. Fermentation was done temperature controlled in traditional oak barrels (Fuder), the wine stored in stainless steel tanks and bottled on 15th April 2014.

Tasting notes

This Estate Riesling displays excellent quality and value. Fresh and pure orchard fruits, a mix of peach, raspberry and elderberry blossom, upfront some touchy sweetness that freshens your taste buds; it dances in your mouth and swings gently on your palate. The mineral texture carries the perfect balance of residual sugar and vibrant, elegant fruit acid. It finishes with gentle clean dry lingering structure. A very zesty, animating zip of Riesling.

October 2014 (Vintage 2013)

You may furrow your brows when seeing a 'mere' Estate wine rated so high in 2013. There is a reason: this is made above all from 'declassified' parcels in Erdener Treppchen, Graacher Domprobst and Himmelreich and Veldenzer Elisenberg. The nose shows notes of pineapple, peach skin, ginger spice, grapefruit, a touch of smoke and apricot. Nice and open aromas lead to a creamy wine which has nice presence and freshness. The finish is long and more off dry in taste than sweet. This is a great success for a 'humble' estate wine!
