October 2023 (Vintage 2019)

The emblem of the great work of varietal research of San Felice in this Gran Selezione from Sangiovese at the 80% and a not extemporaneous participation of Abrusco, Pugnitello, black Malvasia, Ciliegiolo and Mazzese. Cranberry at the mouth, nuances of pepper leaves and licorice. The mouthfeel is brackish-sapid, sour cherry comeback.

Smoke, meat and wet earth to the black fruit. Black truffle, too. Full-bodied, chewy and fruity. Lots of smoky wood. Tight and in need of time to open up, yet it already delivers beautifully polished, caressing tannins. Decant before serving. An amazing wine.

September 2015 (Vintage 2011)

A fantastic combination of power and finesse, this opens with aromas of under brush, ripe plum, truffle, leather, smoke and a balsamic note. The firm, delicious palate delivers fleshy black cherry, crushed raspberry, cinnamon and mocha. Velvety tannins support the juicy flavors.

August 2015 (Vintage 2011)

This is a classy Chianti Classico with lots of structure and depth plus firm tannins and a blueberry, black cherry and cedar character. Compacted and tight. Superb and complex. Lots going on. An excellent follow-through after the outstanding 2010.

June 2014 (Vintage 2010)

This gorgeous, structured wine, made from 80% Sangiovese and 20% other native grapes, is all about depth and complexity. Ripe black cherry, blue flower, tilled soil, mineral, black spice and leather all jump out of the glass. The succulent fruit is impeccably balanced by fresh acidity and solid yet refined tannins.

August 2018 (Vintage 2016)

A broad, rich style, backed by big, dense tannins. Black cherry, plum, earth and tree bark flavors mingle, riding the dusty tannins on the finish. Terrific length and a ripe core of fruit keep this balanced.

This is really outstanding with layers of refined tannins and fruit. Medium to full body, chocolate, berry and light cedar character. Long and caressing.

April 2020 (Vintage 2016)

San Felice 2016 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Il Grigio reveals a dark garnet color with medium rich concentration. The bouquet is centered on dark fruit with some dried tones of earth, tarry smoke and crushed rose. The fruit aromas are on the dry and lean side, and the tannins are also a bit evolved. For these reasons, I suggest a near-term drinking window so that you can grasp the fruit while it is still freshest.
