About this winery

Olivier Humbrecht is one of the world's most renowned winegrowers. He is a Master of Wine and has been described by Robert Parker as the greatest white winemaker on earth. Yet he is very soft spoken, humble, and self-deprecating, which makes him perfectly suited to his assumed role as a global ambassador of wine. He is a champion of terroir, biodynamic farming principles, and non-interventionist winemaking, whose family have been winegrowers in Alsace for 12 generations (since 1620). He is...

Production notes

This wine has a high percentage of Muscat ‘petit grain’ or Muscat d’Alsace. A much more heat resistant and higher acidity than the Muscat Ottonel, and actually well suited to warmer vintages. The selection comes from an old vineyard where both colour (red and white berries) can be found. Muscat petit grain doesn’t ripen that quickly as it can take some time to achieve good phenolic ripeness. Luckily, on the warm gravelly valley floor of Turckheim, the vines enjoy longer sunshine hours being more distant from the shadow of the mountains. It is therefore possible to harvest relatively early without high alcoholic concentration. This wine usually ferments very quickly and doesn’t undergo malolactic fermentation.

Tasting notes

Bright pale yellow colour. The nose displays elegant fruity and floral aromas with medium intensity. The warm harvest sunshine ripened the grapes to perfection which means more complex flavours and less varietal character. The palate is delicate but persists nicely. Like most wines in 2020, it also has interesting tannins that makes the acidity taste more intensely and saline. This is a well-balanced wine, completely dry (but not aggressive) which is already so enjoyable at this young age.

May 2024 (Vintage 2022)

Very fresh and bright with effusive pink grapefruit and lilac aromas from the warm, dry growing season. I love this wine’s zesty personality and the wonderful mineral freshness that gives the long finish a terrific kick. This almost pure muscat a petits grains. From biodynamically grown grapes.

August 2022 (Vintage 2020)

A real charmer! Very bright, floral, crisp and sleek for Alsace. Lively acidity (no malolactic here!) enables it to dance its way light-footedly through the long, refreshing finish that pulls you back for more. From the alluvial Herrenweg vineyard of Turckheim and overwhelmingly from muscat a petits grains, with only a small amount of muscat ottonel. From biodynamically grown grapes. Drink now.
