L'ECOLE NO. 41

Perigee 2021

- 95 points -

Moving to the flagship, smaller production releases, the 2021 Perigee Estate Seven Hills Vineyard is based on 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 24% Merlot, 11% Cabernet Franc, 8% Malbec, and the rest Petit Verdot that's from a site in the heart of the Walla Walla Valley. It has a mostly opaque ruby/plum color as well as beautifully perfumed aromatics of cassis and black raspberry-like fruits interwoven with smoked tobacco, spice oak, and spring flowers, with just a kiss of background iron and truffle. Vibrant, upfront, and perfumed, it hits the palate with medium to full-bodied richness, a seamless mouthfeel, and beautifully polished, yet building tannins. It’s a brilliant red from this team to enjoy any time over the coming 15+ years.
