Orphan Bank Shiraz 2018

- 95 points -

The beauty of these relocated old vines is that they never seem to yield a wine that's too ripe or too heavy. The 2018 Orphan Bank Shiraz offers up scents of red raspberries and blueberries alongside hints of mint. The oak (all French oak hogsheads, 47% new) is well-balanced and integrated into the wine, barely noticeable in this full-bodied beauty. Supple and charming, it's a very pretty Shiraz—maybe not the biggest or baddest beast—but remarkably elegant and long-lasting on the finish.

About USA Wine Ratings

Wines judged by Quality, Value, and Package. The USA Wine Ratings looks to set a new benchmark for award-winning wine by assessing them for their quality, value for money, and what they look like with their packaging and design. We’re told to never judge a book by its cover. Which is very much the approach taken by the majority of wine competitions around the world that only judge a wine by how it tastes, with no consideration at all for what it looks like, and often how much it costs.
