Mai 2023 (Millésime 2022)

Faiveley owns a third of a hectare on the Puligny side of Bâtard, directly up-slope from their vines in Bienvenues. The wine is a classic of the appellation, with ripe apple and quince aromas, hints of acacia flower, hazelnut, and spice. The texture is powerful and richer than the Bienvenues; it also has more structure and potential for ageing. The overall impression is one of density without heaviness – marvellous. This wine should open with three to five years in the bottle and drink for a further 20.

This is expressive, its pastry- and toast-tinged peach, lemon and spice flavors set against a creamy texture. The firm structure emerges on the finish, which is long and evokes stony, mineral elements.

Deep and muscular, the 2022 Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru reveals notes of pear, sweet stone fruit, fresh mint, buttered toast and hazelnuts, followed by a full-bodied, rich and layered palate that's deep and concentrated, its sweet core of fruit girdled by lively acids.

Pale, bright yellow. Deep, ripe aromas of peach flesh, flowers and vanillin oak. Broad, ripe, sweet and rich; deceptively accessible today owing to its sweet peachy fruit. Displays more body and sweetness than the Bienvenues, not to mention more breadth and salinity, but this wine will need longer cellaring. Less showy today, but then this is Batard. Mounts slowly and lingers on the classically dry aftertaste.

Generous if not dominant wood fights a bit with the similarly exotic aromas of lemon confit, tangerine rind, white peach and apricot scents along with a floral top note. The sleek, vibrant and tautly muscular broad-shouldered flavors are not quite as concentrated though they do possess a highly attractive texture as well as better depth and persistence.

The 2021 Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru is more backward and surly than the Bienvenues at this stage, less "welcoming". The palate is well balanced with a tangy entry, orange rind and lemon peel, touches of grapefruit towards the finish, though the Bienvenues has more cohesion. Still commendable given the season.

Juin 2024 (Millésime 2022)

(from a .35 ha parcel on the Puligny side that sits directly above the parcel of Bienvenues-Bâtard- Montrachet). A more floral-suffused nose freely reveals its aromas of carnation, acacia and lilac with additional nose of the essence of pear and crushed fennel. The sleek, intense and impressively scaled flavors brim with sappy dry extract that seems to have no effect on the precision of the wonderfully long, bone-dry and superbly long and well-balanced finale. Like the BBM, this could use better depth but overall, it’s exceptionally promising.
