Domaine Latour Giraud

The weather is hot! So we'd thought we'd offer something from a category that is hot as well. Nothing seems to sell out quicker these days than great white burgundy, (well maybe Champagne)! Don't ask us for more at Christmas time as this vintage will be long sold out.

And this truly is great White Burgundy! Weighty and textured, but with tremendous cut and minerality. The wines from Latour Giraud age beautifully. A sampling of some recent 2010s,2011s and 2012s showed loads of life ahead, but these are not wines that you have to wait a decade to taste they are wines to buy a case of and visit over a half decade or longer.

Old vines from a thoughtful and contentious producer! What more can you ask for?

Only the free run juice is fermented with wild, natural yeasts in barrels of which 25% is new. The wines are kept on their lees an appropriate time to balance texture and acidity while racking is kept to a minimum. The whites are fined, but not filtered, and bottled by hand. Unlike many producers who bottle all their wines at once, Latour-Giraud carefully monitors each wine and bottles at the optimal time over a 6 month period.

(from 40+ year old vines from a huge 2.5 ha parcel in Genevrières Dessus). Smoky, cool and elegant aromas are composed primarily of various white orchard fruit, acacia blossom, citrus rind, wood and a hint of exotic tea. The racy, intense and admirably concentrated flavors possess very good volume as well as an appealing minerality that
adds a sense of lift to the sneaky long, balanced and firm finale.
