About this winery

When Laura Catena decided to create a line of wines of her very own, she made a conscious decision to pay tribute to the traditional, small, family, growers and to a group of special vineyard sites in Mendoza, Argentina. The name La Posta refers to La Posta del Viñotero – ‘the Tavern of the Grape Grower’, found in every local village where farmers go to get their mail after a hard day in the vineyards. There, they meet to drink wine, laugh, and tell stories, agreeing to agree or disagree...

Product notes

Malbec & Syrah grapes were hand-harvested from 34 year old vines located in the Uco Valley - La Consulta / Bonarda: Eastern Region.

Production notes

After harvest, 30% of the grapes were aged in 2nd use French barrels for 8 months.

Tasting notes

Aromas of red cherries and raspberries are infused with mocha and spice hints that give up the secret for whats about to come. The first sip washes broadly across your palate like a flood of sweet, fresh fruit and a vibrant and long finish. The hints of baking spice and some oak keep the fruit flavors fresh and lively.

So much pressed-violet character, spice box, licorice, brambleberries and citrus undertones. Very juicy on the palate with lots of soft, succulent tannins, driven acidity and only an ever so slightly chewy finish. So pure and drinkable. Malbec, bonarda and syrah blend.

October 2017

Substantial, brooding, savoury.
...This substantial red offers notes of toasted spices, blackened cherries, blackberries, cracked pepper and saddle leather with violets and licorice undertones. It is brooding; flavours of bittersweet cocoa nibs and spice, espresso and black fruit dominate. It has a savoury finish.

Pair: roasted meats, decadent mushroom risotto or hard cheeses.

Steve Thurlow, August 2014 (Vintage 2013)

"The 2013 shows a little more complexity and elegance than the 2012, that I tasted a few weeks ago, which was also an opaque purple red blend of malbec with syrah and bonarda. Expect aromas of black cherry jam, blueberry and red grapefruit with delicate oak spice. It is full bodied and flavourful with some firm tannin giving grip and acidity for vibrancy. Good to very good length. Try with a steak. Best 2014 to 2016. Tasted August 2014 during WWAC14."

March 2014

(a 60/20/20 blend): Bright dark red. Slightly tanky aromas of raspberry, mocha and smoke. Red fruit and flint flavors are lifted by a hint of spicy oak. Not at all a sweet style, this wine's firm tannins should give it the bite to serve with pizza. -Stephen Tanzer
