About this winery

Monica Raspi hadn’t planned to be a winemaker. She was a veterinarian and had no training in viticulture or winemaking. But her heart spoke to her. When Monica’s mother announced her retirement from Pomona in 2005, Monica could not accept that the land she was so attached to, where many fond memories of her late father and childhood were created would be sold and no longer part of the family. In 2007, Monica closed her veterinarian clinic, picked up an enology book and started her adventure...

March 2022 (Vintage 2018)

Only Pomona produces Riserva that scents and tastes like this and only Monica Raspi's deliver peak wine experience moments that nearly always occur in repose, never connected with work. Such is the ease of her '18 Riserva, big and focused, light and understanding. Given time it will also act charming, gracious and nurturing. Drink 2024-2030.

Antonio Galloni, July 2022 (Vintage 2018)

The 2018 Chianti Classico Riserva is a powerful, burly wine. Black cherry, incense, tobacco, scorched earth and licorice bring out the darker side of Sangiovese. I would give the tannins here a few years to soften. There's a ton of personality here, no question about it. That said, it would be great to see a bit more finesse.

March 2022 (Vintage 2018)

Youthful crimson. A nose that is a little closed and reluctant to open up. Supple, concentrated and tannic fruit that ticks all the boxes. Still all components need to come together, but this is a hugely promising wine.

January 2023 (Vintage 2018)

Spicy and brooding, the 2018 Chianti Classico Riserva shows off its depth with cherry liqueur, black licorice candy, lavender, and leather. It is medium to full-bodied, with ripe, present tannins and notes of black raspberry, dried sage, and warming baked earth. Its structure and savory herbal side beg to be served alongside a Florentine or rich cut of steak drizzled liberally with olive oil.
