About this winery

Olivier Humbrecht is one of the world's most renowned winegrowers. He is a Master of Wine and has been described by Robert Parker as the greatest white winemaker on earth. Yet he is very soft spoken, humble, and self-deprecating, which makes him perfectly suited to his assumed role as a global ambassador of wine. He is a champion of terroir, biodynamic farming principles, and non-interventionist winemaking, whose family have been winegrowers in Alsace for 12 generations (since 1620). He is...

Product notes

The grapes are exclusively sourced from Clos Windsbuhl Vineyard, one of Zind-Humbrecht's top vineyard. The respect for the vine and soil is very important for Olivier and is team of vineyard workers. All viticultural work is carried out by hand with the help of some horses to plough the vineyards with minimum impact of the soil. All vineyards have been certified organic and biodynamic since 2002.

Production notes

All wines are fermented in traditional oak vats using native yeasts. No additives are used, and chaptalization is never carried out. The wines are left on their lees and ferment at there own pace, the wines are not fined. Very little sulfites are added and the wines are bottled after at least 8 months on the lees.

Tasting notes

This wine is medium intense with fresh fruity and citrus nose. The palate about purity and freshness, not marked by the long lees contact. Well balanced. The limestone minerality is obvious on the finish. This vineyard characteristically produces wines full of acidity and stony flavors, with strong fruit tannins that give a long finish and a dry firm structure.

September 2015

A beautiful wine with sliced lemon and green apple. Full-bodied and round with bright acidity. Fruity and flavorful. Lovely texture. Creamy. A blend of chardonnay, auxerrois and pinot blanc. The style of new Alsace in one. Made from biodynamically grown grapes.

August 2016 (Vintage 2014)

The flinty but utterly promising scent of reduction still hovers above this wine: clearly this is not meant to be drunk now. The palate underneath already tells of the freshest apple fruit, of depth and purity plus a woody roundness. Let this sleep in your cellar until 2017–2023.

Anne Krebiehl MW, August 2016

The nose is like pear juice spilled onto warm earth, while the palate is more citrusfocused. A seam of almost tropical acidity links lemon to notes of pineapple, lifted by joyful freshness.
