Septembre 2021

Pure perfection in a glass, the 2019 G2 Vineyard checks in as 53% Grenache, 21% Mourvèdre, 19% Graciano, and the rest Carignan and Syrah. An incredible array of blackberries, ground pepper, violets, and herbes de Provence all emerge from the glass, and it’s full-bodied, deep, and concentrated, yet as weightless as they come. It shows more gamey, exotic notes with time in the glass, it’s perfectly balanced, and it’s just an incredible wine from this reference point estate. Drink bottles any time over the coming 10-15 years.

Août 2024 (Millésime 2022)

The 2022 G2 Vineyard checks in as 44% Grenache, 19% Mataro, 18% Graciano, 14% Syrah, and 5% Carignan that's clearly from one of the leading sites on the west side of Paso Robles. Blackberries, red plums, Asian spice, pepper, candied violets, and incense-like nuances all shine in this killer wine. With full-bodied richness, a round, layered mouthfeel, sweet yet certainly present tannins, and a great finish, this heavenly bottle of wine deserves 2-3 years of bottle age and will evolve gracefully over the following 15-20 years. It might be the wine of the vintage in 2022.

Juin 2024 (Millésime 2022)

The 2022 G2 Vineyard is composed of 44% Grenache, 19% Mataro, 18% Graciano, 14% Syrah and 5% Carignan that spent 22 months in a mixture of 600-liter and 300-liter barrels, 77% new. The nose is deep, charred and brooding, clearly displaying this site's burly, unabashed power. The palate is a split personality that combines extreme, plush, opulent ripe fruits with a beautifully refined, elegant structure with impressive energy and clarity. The finish is coiled and long, ceaselessly expanding in its grip and dimension, which should carry this wine gracefully well past its 15th birthday.

Août 2023 (Millésime 2021)

Saxum has been working with the G2 vineyard since 2014, and this Grenache-dominant 2021 embodies the phrase ‘iron fist in a velvet glove’, in its restraint combined with power. Dark cherries on a shy nose, hints of cedar and toastiness. The palate is a well-integrated study on precision and interplay: dark currant and plum fruits, cinnamon, black pepper, completed by sweet oak spice.

Juin 2024 (Millésime 2022)

Intense, the 2022 G2 Vineyard bursts from the glass with a mix of crushed raspberry, violet pastille and autumnal spice. Though silky smooth and weighty, this wine lacks the crisp acidity expected. Instead, it offers masses of ripe wild berries, swirling around a core of intriguing mineral notes with a hint of clove. It takes on a liquid floral concentration through the finish, with subtle tannins, hints of baking spice and sweet herbs.

Août 2023 (Millésime 2021)

Not yet bottled but already incredibly impressive, the 2021 G2 will be Grenache-dominated but includes smaller amounts of Syrah and Graciano. It’s loaded with red and black raspberry-like fruits as well as tons of floral, pepper, and spicy nuances, which carry to a full-bodied, pure, elegant red. It’s remarkably complex for such a young wine and has incredible tannins and a gorgeous finish. Don’t miss it.
