Situé juste au sud du village de Montalcino, le domaine Talenti produit quelques-uns des Brunellos offrant le meilleur rapport qualité-prix dans la région, et ce, depuis plus de trois décennies. Cherry, strawberry, earth and mineral flavors provide immediate appeal up front, while the dense structure indicates this red will evolve steadily over a few decades. Underbrush and tobacco elements seep in around the edges, but the beam of fruit persists.

Brilliant ruby garnet in colour, opened with slightly smoky-earthy tones, accompanied by beautiful aromas of juicy cherries, plums and some rose petals. Hearty and gripping on the palate, with dense tannins that are wonderfully balanced.

The 2019 Brunello di Montalcino Piero is impossible to ignore, slowly blossoming with an enticing blend of spice-dusted blackberries, violet pastille and orange zest. This impresses further with its vividly ripe wild berry fruits and juicy acidity. Tactile mineral tones add contrast, and rosy inner florals form toward the close. The 2019 lingers impossibly long, taking on a spicy edge, as the palate is left reverberating with zesty tension, even as fine-grained tannins grip the senses. The Piero is already showing such flamboyancy and balance. It will be a thrilling Brunello to follow over the next two decades.

Juicy, this red is hallmarked by bright cherry and raspberry flavors, with thyme, mint and floral notes chiming in as this firms up on the finish. Complex and lively, with fine length on the refined, minerally aftertaste. Very elegant and long.

While less immediately expressive than Talenti’s classic Brunello, Piero is by no means austere, and the 2018 could be my favourite vintage of this single-parcel selection yet. It presents a lovely purity of wild forest berry aromas lifted by mint, lavender and fennel, while blood orange and cocoa ring out on the palate. Matured in 500l French oak tonneaux - 30% new - the wood is well-digested, lending a well built polished frame that doesn't overpower the fruit. There's sneaky concentration and crunchy acidity balancing out the whole.

A lot of red berried fruits dominate the primary scene and blend with hints of lime, chamomile and mandarin rind. There’s more with the beauty of bergamot and linden blossom which set the secondary scene. Medium to full bodied, fine grain light tannins and a decidedly pleasurable, distended finale. Better from 2022.

Deep magenta/purple in color, the 2019 Brunello Di Montalcino Piero needs air on opening and is forward with tarry aromas that mask the wine underneath, revealing notes of black plum, violets, and licorice. Approachable and rounded, this full-bodied Brunello has a silky texture, plush tannins, and a long finish. Quite attractive, it will benefit from a decant if opening any time soon, but it should have a lot to offer in the coming 10-15 years.

Pretty hazelnut, dried flower and chocolate undertones to the raspberries and ripe cherries. Medium-bodied, deliciously open and succulent, framed by tight-grained tannins, with excellent drinkability too. Fresh and poised at the finish with tension.

The 2017 Brunello di Montalcino Piero is mysteriously dark and heady, the display of smoke and ashen stone evolving to show crushed blackberries, savory herbs and hints of camphor. The textures are velvety and dense, and a wave of mineral-tinged red and black fruits drenches the palate in primary depths of concentration. Beneath it all, a coating of fine-grained tannins settles in, slowly working to encase the senses with youthful tension and poise. Even still, a lasting mix of cherries, black tea and menthol carries on for what seems like a full minute. While I don’t expect this to mature as gracefully as past renditions of the single-vineyard Piero, it’s a total success for the vintage.

Perfumed, with red berries, cherries and a hint of rose stem in the nose. Medium-bodied with lots of wood and richness. Chewy and slightly austere, but it should soften with age and come together.
