About this winery

Jean-Marc Brocard's origins lie in the Côte d'Or, a farmer's son from the village of Chaudenay-le-Château, not even the son of the vigneron. Following his father’s advice Jean-Marc studied Engineering leaving behind agricultural life. It was an accident of marriage that brought him to wine when he married Claudine (his childhood sweetheart), a vigneron's daughter from the village of St-Bris-le-Vineux in the valley of Yonne. January 2022 (Vintage 2020)

Initially reductive notes of scorched earth and smoke in this wine dissipate with aeration, revealing pristine yellow apple and Mirabelle. Edged by a crush of oyster shells and salty mineral tones, this invigorating sip finishes on a whisper of white pepper.

December 2018 (Vintage 2017)

The east-facing vineyard gives cool wines with layers of intense acidity that contrast with the honey flavors of this wine. The two elements give a rich wine but one with plenty of freshness as well as spice.

Neal Martin, September 2022 (Vintage 2020)

The 2020 Chablis Vau de Vey 1er Cru has an attractive bouquet with wild peach, light quince and flinty aromas, quite complex though I would not describe it as "intense". The palate is very well balanced with a fine bead of acidity, harmonious, quite sappy towards the finish with decent length. Perhaps like the Butteaux, I would have liked a little more tension on the finish, but it should still give 8-10 years' drinking pleasure. Tasted blind at the BIVB tasting in Chablis.

2020 (Vintage 2019)

The reserved nose is at once more elegant and offers noticeably
more Chablis character with its slightly cooler if still mildly exotic aromas of white orchard fruit suffused with hints of oyster shell, ocean breeze and quinine. Once again there is fine concentration to the vibrant and utterly delicious flavors that are caressing but solidly powerful before culminating in a clean, saline and moderately dry finale.

December 2018 (Vintage 2017)

This is fleshy, wrapping a lush texture around apple, lemon cake and stone flavors. Intense and long, this needs time to find balance.

January 2023 (Vintage 2021)

A welcoming nose exudes freshness and vibrant energy with notes of ripe lemons. The round palate craves greater vibrancy and fruit. Enjoy this wine with dishes that accentuate its vivacious character
