About this winery

When Laura Catena decided to create a line of wines of her very own, she made a conscious decision to pay tribute to the traditional, small, family, growers and to a group of special vineyard sites in Mendoza, Argentina. The name La Posta refers to La Posta del Viñotero – ‘the Tavern of the Grape Grower’, found in every local village where farmers go to get their mail after a hard day in the vineyards. There, they meet to drink wine, laugh, and tell stories, agreeing to agree or disagree...

Production notes

Oak regimen: 50% aged in french oak barrels during 8 months, 15% new barrel and 35% second and third use barrels, 50% Stainless steel tanks.

Tasting notes

Aromas of red cherries, raspberries, and violets along with notes of toasty oak. On the palate, fresh berries with spice and a hint of soft caramel on the finish. It goes great with everything from meats, to pasta, to mild cheeses. Unique recipe ideas include: Lamb burger with Manchego and Smoked Paprika, or Caramelized Onion and Butternut Squash Tart.

April 2024 (Vintage 2023)

Fragrant dark plum fruit, lavender and black tea aromas. Some cocoa. It’s medium- to full-bodied with excellent purity of fruit. Sleek, supple tannins.

2025 (Vintage 2023)

Ugarteche, which borders the Uco Valley, and at almost 1,000 meters above sea level, is not widely known. It is the source of very juicy malbecs, such as this example, which comes from 45-year-old vineyards on soils rich in clay. It has notes of violets and sweet red fruits; the palate is pleasing and juicy, with fine, sharp tannins that bring thoughts of oven-baked beef empanadas.
