About this winery

The Trimbach family has a long and storied history in Alsace. Growers since the 17th century the estate is now in the hands of its 12th generation, where brothers Pierre and Jean Trimbach run the day to day operations. Product notes

Formerly produced under the name Cuvée M, this wine is now called Grand Cru Mandelberg since the 2016 vintage. It has always come from the Grand Cru Mandelberg in Mittelwihr, on our hectare of old vines over 60 years old with limestone and stony soil, in particular rolled pebbles, as well as marl-limestone. Early soil, hot, very sloping, little soil and facing South-SE. One of the only 3 Grands Crus of Alsace not to be leaned against the sub-Vosges hills, with less shade and freshness coming from the valley and the forest. Aging potential : 10-15 years.

Production notes

Since 1996, the Trimbachs have been cultivating Grand Cru Mandelberg in Mittelwihr which is situated on an almond tree slope. This south-south-east hill is composed of brown limestone-marl soil and is an early ripening terroir. The vineyard has an altitude of 690 to 755 feet, with the age of the vines averaging 45+ years. The average yield is 40-45 hl/ha. Twenty years after cultivating the vineyard, the family had decided to integrate this Grand Cru in their collection.

May 2020 (Vintage 2016)

Lifted chamomile notes and hints of heady chamomile tincture hint at some development of this wine. The slender palate shimmers with vivid lemon freshness, notions of conifer and crushed herb, pleasantly bitter notes of pith and an uncompromising notion of hard, wet stone. This wine is extraordinary in its finesse and energy. The finish is bone dry.

James Suckling, December 2020 (Vintage 2019)

Here’s one for those who think riesling is always a light wine. A rich, mouth-filling and succulent wine that easily has enough freshness to carry the ample body and cornucopia of ripe yellow fruit. Great structure through the long, texturally complex finish. Drink or hold.

Kristen Bieler, February 2024 (Vintage 2019)

A well-meshed, complex Riesling, with layers of warm apple, spice and fragrant meadow blossom flavors. Chalky in feel, with density building on the palate, where chamomile, lemon oil and heather elements chime in. Maintains structure and focus, thanks to salty minerality. Drink now through 2028.
