Notes de dégustation

his elegant Rutherford wine opens with aromas of black cherry, black currant, blackberry and plum accentuated by dense juicy tannins on the palate. The flavors of dark fruit are underpinned by hints of pine resin, black tea, lavender and espresso. A fresh acidity balances out the rich dark fruit, making this an age-worthy wine with a soft, lush, round finish.

Janvier 2022 (Millésime 2019)

Legendary winemaker Mike Grgich is winemaker emeritus here now, while his nephew, Croatian-born Ivo Jeramaz, manages day-to-day operations. Older vines supply the grapes for this vintage, commemorating Mike's 100th birthday. And what a tribute: heady dark berry aromas, grilled meat, coffee and baking spices meet succulent red and black berry preserves, tobacco, clove and violet notes. The palate is framed by striking tannins with real grip, finishing with mouthwatering acidity and a wave of brown baking spices

Septembre 2022 (Millésime 2019)

The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Yountville Old Vine is flashier and more open on the nose than the 2018 version, with more obvious cedar and caramel overtones, as well as more exuberant notes of black cherries and cassis. It's medium to full-bodied, a bit plumper seeming on the palate, with a grainier feel to the tannins and a long, velvety finish.

Janvier 2023 (Millésime 2019)

Grgich Hills farms 63 acres east of the Napanook Vineyard and crossing over to the Yountville town side of Highway 29; 25 of those acres date to 1959, planted to the Inglenook clone of cabernet on St-George rootstock. Part of the Grgich Hills Estate since 1984, farmed under organics since 2000, those 60-year-old vines produced a bright, floral cabernet in 2019, brisk and saturated with the cool feel of Yountville fruit. The tannins are open and welcoming, with some earthy grit in the finish. This has a long life ahead
