About this winery

The Trimbach family has a long and storied history in Alsace. Growers since the 17th century the estate is now in the hands of its 12th generation, where brothers Pierre and Jean Trimbach run the day to day operations. February 2008 (Vintage 2005)

Honey, rose petal, peony, sweet pea, bacon fat, and cinnamon in the nose of the 2005 Gewurztraminer Seigneurs de Ribeaupierre (incorporating Osterberg and Hunawihr fruit) lead to a rich yet rather firm palate with a “cool” chalky impression, its 15 grams of residual sugar practically neutralized by (for this grape) unusually high acidity and palpable extract. Refined, elegant, and deftly-balanced, this finishes with persistent juiciness, eloquent, enticing florality, and subtle spice.

October 2010 (Vintage 2005)

The overall elegance here belies the complexity found in the finely meshed layers of flavor and delicate acidity, with a pronounced smoke note winding through the lemon curd, brine, white peach, honeysuckle and lychee flavors. Just a touch of pine and candle wax shows also, lingering on the long finish.

Stephen Tanzer, July 2007 (Vintage 2005)

Subdued nose opens with air to show cured meats, pineapple, mirabelle and brown spices. Sweet, spicy and highly concentrated; powerful but not at all overly phenolic. This has 15 grams of acid but tastes drier owing to its juicy acidity. Finishes very long, with a touch of sweetness and a lovely airy quality. Pierre says the 2000 is great right now but that this needs time. Another '05 gewurztraminer with lovely intensity and breadth.

Jancis Robinson, September 2011 (Vintage 2005)

Very correct floral nose with a firm backbone. Not a bad price for the age and purity! Refreshing dry finish. Well done! A mineral Gewurz that has not an ounce of flab but is utterly true to the varietal. Long and a challenge to food matches. Light, fresh cheese? Fiona Beckett suggests lobster and ginger with this. Foie gras. Tense. Long.
