About this winery

Located in heart of the Sancerre region is Domaine Vincent Delaporte and Sons, a family business which has been passed from father to son since the 17th century. The winery is located in the charming village of Chavignol, recognized as, perhaps, the prettiest village in the region and for its famous goat cheese. Product notes

The Monts Damnée Hill is a very uneven and sharp plot of Chavignol, facing south/southeast, with a Kimmeridgian marl soil (combination of clay and seashell). It is one of the most reputed slopes of the Sancerre appellation. The Benedictine monks of the Saint-Satur Abbay planted it around the 10th or 11th century. Lords and nobles had already started to bid higher in order to get some landlordship of the plots. The name of the plot, literally the “The Damned Mountain” evokes the difficulty encountered by winemakers working in its very steep incline.

Production notes

After the grapes reach their peak maturity in October, they are picked by hand and are sorted into boxes. The whole grapes are put into the pneumatic press and are pressed slowly and gently to obtain clear juice of the highest quality. This juice put into 600 liter barrels for 12 months where it undergoes fermentation and a period where it rests on the lees.

Tasting notes

Intense and complex on the nose with balsamic notes (pine resin, beeswax, eucalyptus) and then floral aromas (acacia flowers, linden) with kiwi, citrus fruits and macaroon notes. The attack is clean, the palate is firm and crisp with nice acidity. After notes of meringue and citrus zest, the wine finishes with white flowers and woody notes. Long retro-olfaction with fruit salad aromas.
