Tasting notes

Beautiful deep purple color. Aromas of cigar, leather, and smoked meat fill the nose with hints of toasty oak, forest floor and baking spice. Sweet tannins support big fruit flavors of blackberry jam, black spiced cherries with a hint of rhubarb. Pairs nicely with grilled or smoked meats such as beef, pork and lamb, and dishes prepared with mild cheese or wild mushrooms.

2024 (Vintage 2022)

One of the best syrahs in South America today, this wine offers a refreshing, fruity take on the variety. It's still young, but it’s also deep, with delicious tones of spices and some of the variety’s classic meaty notes. On the palate it’s succulent, but the tannins and acidity are firm and the texture is tense and nervy, which helps the fruit express itself even more vigorously. This syrah is from a vineyard planted in La Consulta 54 years ago, making it rather older than your average South American syrah. It was aged in barrels for a year, 35% of which were new oak.

May 2022 (Vintage 2020)

Intense nose of cassis, ripe blackberries, dried blueberries, charcoal, cracked pepper, bitter chocolate, cloves and tea leaves. Medium-to full-bodied with very fine, tight tannins. Dark, spicy and vibrant.

November 2022 (Vintage 2021)

Like other wines from the portfolio, the 2021 Laborde Double Select Syrah is fresher than its 2020 counterpart and has better definition, more depth, freshness and balance. It still has limited varietal character, but it's juicy and straightforward with a medium to full-bodied palate and polished tannins.

Luis Gutierrez, November 2022 (Vintage 2020)

The leafy and herbal 2020 Laborde Double Select Syrah has notes of ripe berries and integrated oak, with limited varietal character and quite fruit-driven, with a juicy palate and fine tannins.
